FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE

Florence and the Machine (conosciuti anche come Florence + the Machine), è il nome d'arte di Florence Leontine Mary Welch (Londra, 28 agosto 1986) e di un gruppo di artisti che collaborano con lei per creare musica per la sua voce. Lo stile di Florence and the Machine è generalmente ispirato al soul e all'indie rock. Florence and the Machine hanno ricevuto dei premi dai media [1], specialmente dalla BBC che ha giocato un ruolo molto importante nella scalata al loro successo, pubblicizzandoli come parte della BBC Introducing. Questo ha permesso alla band di partecipare a numerosi festival nel 2008, tra cui Glastonbury, il Festival di Reading e Leeds e T in the Park.

The Machine [modifica]

The Machine è la band d'accompagnamento di Florence, ed è composta da alcuni musicisti, che in un primo momento includevano Devonté Hynes. Attualmente è formata da Robert Ackroyd (chitarra), Christopher Lloyd Hayden (batteria), Isabella Summers alias Isabella Machine (tastiera), Mark Saunders (basso) e Tom Monger (arpa). Johnny Borrel dei Razorlight ha suonato le tastiere in una delle prime formazioni della band, che vedeva anche Rob Ackroyd alla chitarra e Ritch Mitchell alla batteria.

I Florence and the Machine sono coordinati da Mairead Nash, una delle componenti del duo Queens of Noize. Nash decise di dirigere il gruppo quando in uno dei suoi night Club una poco sobria Florence la trascinò nella toilet e le cantò la canzone "Something Got A Hold On Me" di Etta James.

Nel 2009 esce il loro primo album, Lungs. L'album fu ufficialmente avviato con una performance al Rivoli Ballroom a Brockley, sud-est di Londra. L'album ha raggiunto la posizione numero uno nel Regno Unito il 25 gennaio 2010.

È stato pubblicato anche negli Stati Uniti e in diversi paesi europei, raggiungendo buone posizioni nelle classifiche di diversi stati.[2] La maggior parte del materiale dell'album fu scritto come reazione a ciò che si scoprì essere una temporanea rottura con l'attuale fidanzato della Welch. La Welch dice "Lui preferisce che non gli parli di questo. E' divertente quindi cantarlo!".

Il gruppo ha anche scritto una canzone, "Heavy in your arms" presente nella colonna sonora del film Eclipse
